2030 Masterplan

This work has followed on from the development of the Resource Recovery Park at Park Grounds, Wotton Bassett. Designscape, working with Format Engineers have helped our Client to develop a far reaching vision for using the waste heat and CO2 produced by the management of waste. Waste methane, CO2 and heat will be used in inflatable greenhouses located on top of landfill to grow food for the local population. The thin shell concrete commercial buildings will be able to house new businesses which can benefit from the heat and power from the waste recovery operation, with the existing farmland replaced on top of the buildings. The concrete shells will be capable of supporting very heavy loads such as cattle and tractors. The ETFE foil greenhouses – which can flex with the movement of the land on which they stand – benefit from the positive internal pressure which supports the structure, but also keeping insects and pollen out of the greenhouses.

Planning permission has been secured for both prototypes, and work is now underway to test the technology and construction techniques.

We are working with CSLL to develop a new, innovative approach whereby waste is buried temporarily in a “rapid reactor” cell and the methane is extracted for energy. The waste can then be re excavated, mined for any further recoverable materials and then finally landfilled.

The old landfill is being re – landscaped to provide a totally screened and enclosed plateau for the inflatable greenhouses which will provide food for the local community. Waste CO2 and waste heat will be piped to the greenhouses to create a warm, CO2 rich internal environment to help control the speed of plant growth.

We are helping CSLL to design a radical and truly “local first” approach to food, energy, employment and eventually housing.

Clarks Head Quarters

Working within a historic factory complex

We have been appointed to undertake a number of projects for Clarks Shoes at their Head Quarters in Street, Somerset. These are located within historic former factory buildings, from which Clarks once manufactured their famous shoes. Optimising this space for current and changing workplace activities has been an ongoing project for Clarks. We have produced a masterplan considering the phased redevelopment of underused sections of the estate for new uses and buildings, including conference suite, meeting rooms and office space.
